44 year old Michael James Haddeman from Fernandina Beach, FL was heading northbound on I-95 near Brunswick when a FedEx truck traveling southbound crossed a divider barrier, struck, and killed him in his 2015 Chevrolet Equinox.
Driving the FedEx truck is 51 year old James Morton. His co-worker, Miquel Salazar Guzman, 45 years of age was in the sleeping compartment of the cab. Both were not injured.
The SUV was just a few hundred yards north of the Spur 25 overpass of exit 38. The tractor-trailer blocked all four northbound lanes eventually facing west across the on-ramp with the second trailer overturned.
Debris was scattered on all four lanes including packages that came from the trailers.
Two inside lanes of the highway were re-opened before noon. The on-ramp remained closed.
Southbound traffic was moving just fine.
According to Chief Matt Doering, the northbound lanes of I-95 between Exit 38 and Exit 42 was shut down and traffic was detoured onto Golden Isles Pkwy (Spur 25) to GA 99 which lead commuters back onto I-95 at exit 42.
From Camden County, northbound commuters detoured at exit 29 and re-routed North on U.S. 17.
As suspected, traffic past Exit 29 was backed up over the Turtle River Bridge a few miles south of Exit 36.
