Glynn County Schools: Petition for the Total Eclipse on Aug 21, 2017

Many call it the Great American Solar Eclipse! At this point everyone is aware of the solar eclipse to happen on Monday August 21st, 2017. The last time the path of totality spanned across the U.S. was back in 1918. From coast to coast, the eclipse will make it's way to the northeastern tip of Georgia leaving Brunswick only 90% of the eclipse. I'd say that's still enough coverage for a spectacular show! Obviously dark enough for Glynn Co Schools to extend it's dismissal just to assure the safety of students.

However, many parents are also aware this is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to witness a beautiful celestial event which brings up the next question... "Why can't students just take the day off?" This is where the petition comes to life. Instead of keeping students held back in school, parents want their children to witness the partial eclipse somewhere more beautiful, more meaningful. They would rather use the board of education's form of "sick-day" to excuse all students so that they can experience the eclipse with their loved ones.
