Brunswick's Miss Georgia to Miss America?

   Brunswick, Georgia's Alyssa Beasley, who was crowned Miss Georgia earlier this year, is vying for the title of Miss America in Atlantic City this week. On Wednesday through Friday, Miss America preliminary competitions will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. The contestants have been divided into three groups and will rotate each night, competing in lifestyle and fitness, talent and evening wear. On Sunday (9/10/17), the event will take place in Boardwalk Hall.  Chris Harrison will return to host the 2018 Miss America competition for the ninth time, while Sage Steele will join him as co-host for the second year in a row. 

   Alyssa is a 19-year-old Exercise Science Major at the University of Georgia who has always strived for academic excellence and is very proud to have a 3.92 GPA. She has a passion for dance, which began at the age of two and has shaped her life ever since. After a serious hamstring injury, Alyssa realized her dreams of becoming a collegiate dancer were over. Now, she believes her injury was all in God’s plan to further her passion for the arts through teaching and choreographing.
