March 5th is National Cheese Doodle Day! Morrie Yohai brought the cheese doodles to life in the 1940's. You're probably curious as to what are these yummy treats made of. Very simple main ingredient using cornmeal that has been puffed, baked, and coated with cheddar cheese. Yohai took over his family's business which was a snack company called Old London Foods founded by his father and cousin during the 1920's. Yohai took over after serving as a Marine in WWII.
Wise Foods, Inc. purchased the company during the 60's and today, cheese doodles are one of Wise’s strongest brands. They produce over 15-million pounds of cheese doodles each year, enough to fill 36 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Sadly, Yohai – aka Mr. Cheez Doodle – passed away in 2010, at the age of 90.
So today, I ask you raise a cheese doodle to salute Morrie Yohai and say cheers....... RATHER..... CHEESE!
