Johnson was previously married to Dany Garcia, with whom he shares 18-year-old daughter Simone, for 10 years before the couple called it quits in 2007. He then started dating Hashian shortly after the two worked on the set of The Game Plan, and by December 2015 the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Jasmine, and their second daughter, Tiana, in April 2018.

In July 2018, Johnson expressed the possibility of marrying his girlfriend, whom he'd already been referring to as his "wife," telling ET, “I just refer to her as my wife all the time. So a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, did you get married?’ I’m like, ‘No. Easy. Don’t rush big daddy.'"
