Mariah Carey Unveils 'Unfiltered' Memoir's Release Date, Artwork

Less than a day after revealing the completion of the project, Mariah Carey made an official announcement on Thursday (July 9) about the release of her memoir, which is titled The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

As per the announcement, the upcoming book will "finally tell the unfiltered story of her life in a way only she could." While the memoir will be released on September 29 via Andy Cohen Books, an imprint at Henry Holt & Company, an accompanying audio book will also be produced by Audible. In the artwork for the release, which appears to be an outtake from her 2019 Billboard cover story, the superstar looks as elaborate as ever, rocking a black dress with her hair blowing in the wind. Carey wrote the book in collaboration with writer Michaela Angela Davis.

"Carey's story is an improbable and inspiring journey of survival and resilience as she struggles through complex issues of race, identity, class, childhood, and family trauma during her meteoric rise to music superstardom," a statement announcing the book's release date said. "By pulling back the curtain on perceptions often told through the filtered lens of media, Carey bravely and beautifully walks through her battles with gender and power dynamics, emotional abuse, public embarrassments, personal failures, and phenomenal victories. In her own words and song lyrics, Carey reveals untold moments and intimate experiences along with anecdotes of sacred moments with iconic figures to craft an honest, unique, and vivid portrait of her extraordinary life."

Meanwhile, in her own words to fans, Carey admitted that the book comprises all the good and bad, including memories, mishaps, struggles, survival and, most importantly, her songs. "Writing this memoir was incredibly hard, humbling and healing. My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me but also about the resilience of the human spirit," the pop vet explained.

The Meaning of Mariah Carey's release comes simultaneously with the 30-year anniversary of the icon's self-titled debut album. Additional surprises and "rarities" are expected in the coming months to capitalize off the book's anticipated release. The memoir is currently available for pre-order.
