Kesha is opening up about the time she secretly got engaged and why she ultimately decided to call it quits before she could walk down the aisle.
In a new radio interview, the "Joyride" singer shared new details about the moment she knew she was going to end her engagement after getting coming to a realization during a songwriting session, per People.
"Basically, I find that writing songs leads me to my truth," she said, adding, "I was engaged and I didn't wanna be anymore and I didn't even realize that I was gonna break up with him until I wrote a song about it, and then I listened back to it, and I was like, 'Oh no, I'm gonna break up with him now,' but it led me to my truth 'cause I can't lie in the song."
Kesha expanded more on her theory that "you can't lie in a song," admitting that, "A, your song will suck, but also, that's not what it's there for, you know."
The "Tik Tok" singer hasn't revealed who she was engaged to or when, though Rolling Stone previously noted that she wrote the song "Too Far Gone" for her 2023 album Gag Order after ending an engagement.
Kesha is preparing to drop her new album "." this summer and hit the road for her T*** Out Tour. She gave fans their first taste of the new project with her latest single "YIPPEE-KI-YAY," which features T-Pain. She also recently reacted to old photos of herself while appearing iHeartRadio's Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, joking that she "shouldn't have left the house."
