Former MLB All-Star John Kruk took a shot at Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese during the live broadcast of the Philadelphia Phillies-Chicago White Sox game Tuesday (July 29) night.

Kruk, who works as the Phillies' color analyst, referenced Reese when play-by-play man Tom McCarthy gave a shoutout to his former high school basketball teammate, Bob Wyskowski, claiming McCarthy got a lot of rebounds "because I missed a lot of shots and he cleaned them up."

“I don’t want to say anything, but there’s someone here in Chicago that does that a lot,” Kruk said, referencing Reese.

“That is true, she gets her points,” McCarthy responded.

“She gets her rebounds, too,” Kruk added.

Reese leads the WNBA in rebounds, but has been criticized for many of them coming off her own missed shots, which was dubbed as "mebounds" on social media, a term she leaned into by trademarking it and selling merchandise with proceeds going to her foundation combatting cyberbullying. Kruk also acknowledged that he expected backlash online for the reference.

“We’ll be getting some tweets about that, I’m sure,” Kruk said during the broadcast.

Reese shared a post on her account that potentially acknowledged the situation after recording 22 points and 13 rebounds during the Sky's win against the Washington Mystics.

"Clout is one helluva DRUG. Like it really gets to a point," Reese wrote.

The two-time also continued to vent about criticism in a post shared on her TikTok account.

“To anybody that’s been mean to me, and you’re having a hard time in life, good,” Reese said.

Reese is currently averaging 14.2 points and 12.6 rebounds in 23 games during the 2025 WNBA season.
