The Winn-Dixie located at 4404 Altama Ave., Brunswick, is going out of business and will close its doors in June. Southeastern Grocers, the company that oversees the stores, announced that it will shut the location down due to poor performance.
Shawn Sloan, regional vice president, said the decision was not made lightly but feels it was the right choice to make.
“Our associates are always the first to know of any changes at our stores and have been made aware of the closure and are encouraged to apply for the many open positions we have in our network of neighboring Winn-Dixie stores,” Sloan said. “Until the store closes, we will work hard to continue delivering the great service and value our customers have come to expect.”
He knows that the closing will impact a number of shoppers as well as employees, but Sloan said the staff will continue to serve customers to the best of its ability.
“While closing stores is never easy for any retailer, we have made this difficult decision so we can reinvest in what matters most for our customers — providing the quality, service and value they have come to expect from us,” he said.
The store’s 70 employees will have the opportunity to transfer within the Winn-Dixie corporation. There are five other Winn-Dixie stores in Glynn County, including locations at 5420 New Jesup Hwy., Brunswick; 1919 Glynn Ave., Brunswick; 284 Hyde park Commons, Brunswick; 341 Stellar Drive, Brunswick; and 220 Retreat Village, St. Simons Island.
“We appreciate the many contributions our associates have made, and they were the first to know of this decision and opportunities for all associates are being actively pursued at nearby stores,” Sloan said.
No other Winn-Dixie stores are set to shut down.
