UPDATE 4pm 5/20/23. Glynn County Police have issued this release:
"Glynn County GA – On May 20, 2023, at approximately 1:09 AM, the Glynn County Police
Department (GCPD) responded to a shots fired call in the parking lot of the Retreat Village
Shopping Plaza on Saint Simons Island.
Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant, who reported the shots fired. Officers were then
directed to the scene where an adult female victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to her
upper body. Shortly thereafter, Glynn County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and attempted
life saving measures, however, the female was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Glynn County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and assumed jurisdiction of the
body. The victim is being transported to the GBI lab in Pooler, Georgia, where an autopsy and
other forensic examinations will be conducted.
At this time, GCPD Detectives are actively interviewing persons related to this investigation and
conducting numerous investigative functions.

A 53-year-old Brunswick woman was found dead just after one this morning in Retreat Village near Ziggy Mahoney’s. The woman was found lying on the trunk of her car which had been backed down a small driveway behind the plaza. She had been shot in the head and her pants had been removed. The victim’s Facebook profile identified her as an employee of Longhorn Steakhouse.
The body will be examined by the GBI crime lab Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing.
