Onions Sold At Trader Joe's And Ralphs Have Been Recalled In California!

If you've bought red or yellow onions from Trader Joe’s or Ralphs recently, you should double check them right away because there has been a recall in relation to an ongoing salmonella outbreak. The Food and Drug Administration says that Thomson International Inc. is the likely source of the outbreak as they supplied the affected onions to Progressive Produce. Progressive Produce said the recalled onions are normally sold loose in bulk bins and the affected red onions have a PLU sticker with the name Pacific Gold. The red onions recalled were sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah store, while the yellow onions recalled were sold at Ralphs stores in California. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that Salmonella Newport made 640 people sick and 85 people have been hospitalized. California itself has seen 76 cases and there have been no deaths linked to this outbreak. The CDC says, “If you don’t know where your onions are from, don’t eat, serve, or sell them or any food prepared with them."
