Amazon just announced that it's bringing palm scanners to one of its Whole Food stores in Seattle. This means that customers will simply wave their hands above a scanner for a contact-free payment method. The company plans to roll out the new payment system to eight stores in the Seattle area in the coming months. The scanners are currently available at one of the locations in Seattle and plans on expanding it after this initial test run. In order to use these palm scanners, customers will give Whole Foods their credit or debit card information to link their palm print. Customers will also be able to choose a different payment methods like cash, check or other credit card.
Whole Foods mentioned that this new palm scanner will not have any effect on employment in the stores and Team Members will continue to maintain all of their current responsibilities.
